Orange meat factory distributes products nationwide

At Mattern Sausage, 15 staffers cook up 90 different varieties of sausage.

When Mattern Sausage and Meats opened in 1982, the sausage sold in the front of the deli was manufactured in the back. But as the wholesale business grew, it became clear that the manufacturing arm needed a space of its own.

In 1998, Mattern Sausage moved out of the deli’s east Chapman location to an industrial area in West Orange. Managed by Mike Mattern, son of the deli’s founder, the 11,000-square-foot factory churns out 90 varieties of sausage that not only stock Mattern Sausage and Meats, but are also shipped across the country to hotels, restaurants, and food distributors. …read the article
